Why does insurance come up for park restrooms?
Metro's Parks special events application asks for a certificate of insurance when an event adds portable restrooms to a park. The certificate is provided by the organizer.
The insurance covers the event, and it is the organizer's obligation to hold it. The portable toilet provider's own coverage does not replace the certificate the Parks office asks for, so the two should be checked separately.
Who holds the insurance for a park event?
The event organizer provides it. The renter of the restroom units does not hold the event's certificate for the organizer.
The organizer should ask the Parks office for the exact wording and limits it needs. The certificate is then filed with the application so the office can review it.
How is a park lawn protected?
By placing units on firm ground or a pad, keeping the service route on the path, and agreeing any lawn repair with the Parks office before the event closes.
A lawn that is worn down by the crowd needs a pad for the units to stand on. The service vehicle's route across the grass is the most common source of damage, so the path is used wherever it exists.
What does a park application need besides insurance?
The Parks application asks for the event's details, its dates and its layout. The restroom clusters are part of the layout, shown with their routes and the firm ground they stand on.
The office may ask for a site plan that shows the lawn, the paths and the clusters, so the reviewer can judge the route for the service vehicle. The plan is filed with the application, not after it.
A park event that is also a street event needs both applications, and the plan for each space is kept separate and shown to the right office.
What if the lawn is wet on the day?
A wet lawn is handled with a pad or a path, and the Parks office is told of the change in the plan. The units are not placed on ground that the office has not seen.
A pad is laid before the units arrive, and the route for the service vehicle is checked again. Where the lawn is too wet for any safe placement, the event team and the office agree a different spot.
Keep the Parks office's contact number with the event team, so a change can be cleared quickly.
